Our small but mighty St. Catherine/St. Ben's volunteer group had exactly one item on June 3: oranges du jour. We rose to the occasion and engaged in the Battle of the Oranges, wielding our weapons not of medieval swords but rather our hands - sorting and packing oranges from one-ton bins into 40 lb boxes. Working with volunteers from Boeing and others who were simply interested in conquering hunger, we all emerged the victors - 7680 lbs of oranges repacked and sorted. And a rather small amount was removed as inedible. Great work, volunteers.
Another event awaits - volunteer for this next session, and then rest easy on the 4th of July holiday, knowing you helped - in a small yet big way - to ease the burden of hunger:
Wed July 1 6-8 pm South Park warehouse (815 S 96th St Seattle, WA 98108)
To register, just follow the link (create an account if you don't have one; it takes 2-3 min). Join the fun - and earn volunteer hours for your students out there. Children as young as 10 years old (w. parental accompaniment) can join. http://stbens.foodlifeline.volunteerhub.com/
Note that all volunteers must register in advance (FLL recommends 5 days prior).
Once you are registered, please consider carpooling on that Wed. We meet on the south side of St Benedict at 5:15 pm to sort out the carpooling. Traffic going south at that hour is quite slow, but 45 minutes always allows time to get to FLL by 6 pm. Don't hesitate to ask questions - and thank you for your volunteer work. Please advertise in your usual channels. And big thanks -Len K ([email protected]). Please contact Len or Stacy Carter for more info ([email protected])
