The Sacrament of Confirmation, with Baptism and Eucharist, is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation; Confirmation completes and “confirms” the grace of Baptism. Through the anointing with the Sacred Chrism, the baptized person is “enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit” and, more than ever, “obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed” (Catechism 1285).
At what age and time of year is Confirmation celebrated?
Recently, the Archdiocese of Seattle lowered the Confirmation age to 7th grade. This means anyone in that grade and beyond (including adults, young, and old!) is invited to prepare to receive this sacrament. Confirmation takes place in the spring. This year, our parish family confirmation class will celebrate our Confirmation Mass at St. James Cathedral on May 15 at 10 am.
