The weekend of Feb 21-22, members of the Northeast Seattle Parish Family Advisory Council (PFAC) spoke at the end of each Mass, sharing the results of the in-person listening sessions and online surveys held in each parish, with the theme “What are our Gifts?”
13 listening sessions were held parish-wide, and over 100 survey responses were collected to understand the unique gifts within the overall parish family. The results showed that while each parish is unique, there are ‘Golden Threads” connecting us all. Across all four sites, we share a culture of radical inclusion and a welcoming spirit, a faith that is active in service, and a deep love for our parish schools.
We also found that we are not alone in our fears. No matter which parish we call home, we all worry about losing our local identity. We all long to be seen and valued for our gifts. And we all share an apprehension that 'decisions have already been made' about our future. Recognizing that we share these same anxieties is the first step in moving forward as one family rather than four neighbors.
Throughout the year, the PFAC will provide additional information about the next steps, including an opportunity for parishioners to share their perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing the NE Seattle Catholic Community and to discern who we want to become as a parish family. Please continue to pray for our community as we move from 'Who Are We' to 'Who Do We Want To Become' together.
