One of the current affairs uniting worldwide Catholic leaders is the church’s solidarity with the plight of immigrants throughout the world. From Pope Leo XIV to the U.S. Bishops, our church leadership stands together in affirming the Catholic position on the treatment of immigrants throughout the world, including the United States. While official Catholic teaching acknowledges the right of nations to regulate their borders, it also defends the rights of immigrants to humane treatment with respect, dignity, and compassion.
The people of the Catholic Church are also speaking with a growing voice in solidarity with immigrants in our local communities, including NE Seattle. This weekend, we have an opportunity to learn about how we can all support this segment of our human community. You are invited on Saturday to a workshop titled “Stand with Immigrants.” It will be presented by Fr. Ray Riding, ST, Dora Rodriguez, and Bob Kee. The workshop will be held at Assumption Parish and begin with Mass at 9:00 am, followed by talks and discussions until 2:00 pm. The workshop is free, but please register beforehand at [email protected]. Fr. Ray, in addition, will be offering the homily at Assumption on Sunday at the 9:00 am Mass and at the 11:00 am Mass at OLL. All are welcome!
"Lord God, you visit us in the disguise of migrants in need. Help us to understand the causes of migration, to feel solidarity with those who migrate, and to work for their safety and justice. Open our hearts so that we may provide hospitality for all who come in search of refuge. Give us the courage to welcome every stranger as Christ in our midst."
