Our small but mighty St. Catherine/St. Ben's volunteer group had exactly one item on June 3: oranges du jour. We rose to the occasion and engaged in the Battle of the Oranges, wielding our weapons not of medieval swords but rather our hands - sorting and packing oranges from one-ton bins into 40 lb boxes. Looking ahead to the fall bazaar pie making, if anyone has a resource for fruits and/or berries that make great pie filling, for example, strawberries or any kind of berries, rhubarb, peaches, please stock up. If you can freeze them and keep them until fall pie-making, that is ideal, but if you need help with freezer space, we will figure something out. Questions about the pies or anything Bazaar-related? On June 2, members of our parish family came together to listen to the deepest social concerns of each other and to discuss and discern where the Spirit might be leading our group as we look ahead to 2026-27. The NESCC Social Justice coordinators will take the information and determine how our Catholic commitment to social justice might best be lived out in our parish family during the 26-27 year. Our NE Seattle Catholic Community continues to provide a monthly fourth Sunday supper, delivered between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, to Tent City 4 at its new Lake City location, 3212 NE 125th Street, Seattle 98125, through April 2027, in the parking area behind the Seattle Mennonite Church.

Dear Friends in Christ, One of the quotes attributed to the philosopher Aristotle is the following: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." This is a message I shared with those present at the graduation exercises at our parish schools this week. I encouraged our recent grads to make regular participation in the Eucharist a “Habit of the Heart” as they transition into high school.

Dear Friends in Christ, This Sunday is Pentecost, which, after Easter and Christmas, is considered the most important feast in the church’s liturgical year. The church of Jesus is not our idea but is born through the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Whether you are a walker or a hiker, we have some events for you. Our Heavenly Hikers group visited both the Washington Arboretum and the Japanese Garden to stretch our legs and enjoy the spring colors and flowers. This was mostly a slow saunter - stopping to soak in spring sunshine.
